Supermodel Naomi Campbell Says She Was Turned Away From A French Hotel Because She's Black

Speaking to Paris Match recently, supermodel Naomi Campbell revealed that, she was invited to attend an event at a hotel in the south of France around the time of the Cannes Film Festival, but she and her friend were denied entry "because of the color of my skin."

The supermodel recently opened up about the unfortunate encounter which she qualified as 'revolting'.
The supermodel explained: "The guy at the entrance pretended that the place was [full]. But he let other people pass," Campbell said, per The Root. She did not specify which hotel refused to let her in.
Naomi also added: "It’s because of revolting moments like this one that I’ll continue to express myself and make myself heard,".

Miss Campbell who is known as a vocal advocate for diversity in the fashion industry, acknowledges in the interview that she's paved the way for models of color who rose to fame after her. However, she notes that the struggle for racial equality in fashion is not over yet. "The challenge is permanent," she said, according to The Root.
The supermodel also recently told Reuters that representation in the industry has changed "in so many ways" since she first started out, but people shouldn't think of it as a passing fad. "It’s finally ... sunken in but now we hope people don’t think it’s in for a trend, like clothes are in for a season and out for a season, that’s not going to happen," she said.

Over the past few years, Campbell has teamed up with fellow game-changing models Iman and Bethann Hardison to address and fight racism in fashion. Iman told Harper's BAZAAR of the impact of their collaboration, "I think we’re seeing the change on the runways and in campaigns."
Naomi Campbell who is now also an activist, considers the incident yet another reason why she continues to fight for equality, also referencing her mentorship by the late Nelson Mandela in the interview, saying “Mandela opened my eyes, my heart, and showed me the way. With him, I learned a lot.”

Now a veteran in her field, Naomi Campbell recently launched a successful  YouTube channel, reportedly working on a show for Amazon with fellow model  Tim Gunn of Project Runway fame. But the supermodel says Africa is her biggest ambition.

She tells Paris Match: “My dream is to go to all African countries. I still have a lot to do. I want to change the perception of this continent, and encourage the people of our world to invest in infrastructure. For this mission, I will never be tired.”

The revelation comes after supermodel Tyra Banks claimed relations between her and Naomi were frosty because the fashion industry wouldn’t have accepted two successful black models at the same time in the ‘90s. While she still has one foot on the runway, Naomi has delved deeper into philanthropy work in recent years and was seen supporting female basketball players in Senegal earlier this month. The fashion muse attended the SEED Project Hoop Forum to encourage female basketball players to keep honing their skills.
